space | lab connects

How do we want to live together?
space | lab connects created a space for encounter, exchange, and new alliances between art, everyday life, and the neighborhood in Essen’s City North district.

In collaboration with local shop owners, site-specific artistic interventions emerged:
At Amaya sweet home restaurant, Rebecca De Toro and Gregor Leiprecht invited visitors to exchange homemade ice cream for a round of card games—a playful act of connection beyond language.
In the Comic Zentrum, Baptiste Bersoux performed a poetic hybrid between clown and dancer, exploring childhood memories and the deep humanity beneath playful masks.
In the post office at Erste Weberstraße, Ching-Mei Huang wove together dance, film, and light in a moving reflection on multilocality and the silent stories of everyday life.
At the Divine Bar, Camila Scholtbach Sánchez and Emelyn Yábar Tito unfolded a sensual audiovisual installation, inviting a renewed experience of embodiment and intimacy.
Meanwhile, on Weberplatz, Polymer DMT/Fang Yun Lo developed participatory performances with children, envisioning democratic futures through collaborative acts of creation.

The space | lab itself served as an open hub—a place for gathering, sharing, and witnessing, accompanied by a filmic documentation of the entire process.

Rather than presenting completed works, the project foregrounded living exchange, shared experience, and the ongoing question of how we might rethink communal life.
For one day, Essen’s inner city transformed into a "Future Land"—a vibrant field of artistic and social experimentation.
