The "Bedarfsgemeinschaft" is a long-term research and event format in public spaces in various cities in the Ruhr area, which is carried out in cooperation with regional and national artists as well as local associations and cultural initiatives. In this project, places of everyday life - such as kiosks, playgrounds and weekly markets are transformed into cultural intersections. The aim is to promote cultural participation in the city districts. The events in ubiquitous spaces such as kiosks are intended to break down barriers and reach a broad audience. In this way, the initiators want to create a platform where artistic and socio-cultural topics can be negotiated fluidly.
Kati Masami Menze and Dženny Samardžić developed a participatory walk in Schalke. People from the neighborhood as well as from further away were invited to consciously and playfully engage with the surroundings and the interactions taking place within them, discovering new aspects along the way.
